Ignacio Diaz, Jr., BM, MM
Instructor of Music - Piano and Composition
Ignacio holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, Augustana College, Rock Island, Il. and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from Northwestern University, Evanston, Il. Ignacio also completed a Suzuki Method apprenticeship with Yasuko Joichi, a student of Dr. Shinich Suzuki, Japan. He Co-Founded Diaz | Anderson Music Studios, Olympia Washington, with colleague and friend, Matthew Anderson.
In addition to thirty six years of teaching, Ignacio has experience performing as a solo and chamber musician. He has held a position as an assistant choir director and conducting instructor for 16 years at a local private school. Ignacio is a former member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA). He served as Vice President (2015-2016), President-Elect (2016-2017), President (2017-2019) for Olympia Music Teachers Association (OMTA,) the local chapter of MTNA.
Many of Ignacio’s students have gone on to study music at the collegiate and university level, won or placed in competitions, become music teachers and have successful careers in the music industry.
Ignacio lives in Tumwater, Washington, with his wife Linda and daughter Palisades, has a son, Brad, who lives in Olympia, and a daughter, Lilly, who is currently attending OSU, Cascades, in Bend, OR.
