Biography

Ignacio Diaz, Jr., BM, MM
Piano and Composition

Ignacio holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. Ignacio also completed a Suzuki Method apprenticeship with Yasuko Joichi, a very well respected Suzuki Teacher Trainer. He Co-Founded Diaz | Anderson Music Studios, Olympia Washington, with colleague and friend, Matthew Anderson.

In addition to thirty nine years of teaching, Ignacio has experience performing as a solo and chamber musician. He held a position as an assistant choir director, conducting instructor, and music curriculum advisor for 16 years at a local private school. Ignacio is a former member of Music Teachers National Association, Washington State Music Teachers Association. He served as Vice President (2015-2016), President-Elect (2016-2017), President (2017-2019) for Olympia Music Teachers Association, the local chapter of MTNA.

Many of Ignacio’s students have gone on to study music at the collegiate and university level, won or placed in competitions, become music teachers and have successful careers in the music industry.

Ignacio holds a position as a Guest Trainer, lead for Artist Support and Engagement, and Collaborating Artist at Monroe Institute, in Faber, Virginia. Monroe Institute is a non-profit education and research organization dedicated to the exploration and awakening of human consciousness. He co-trains a program called Creation Station, a week-long workshop for musicians, artists and other creatives, guiding participants to access creativity through the use of Monroe Sound Science™, a technology that facilitates the process of the human brain to effectively and efficiently gain access to an unlimited resource of creativity. Additionally, Ignacio also composes and produces music based exercises for Expand, the Monroe Institute app, which is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Ignacio lives in Tumwater, Washington, with his wife Linda and daughters Lilly and Palisades, He also has a son, Brad, who lives in Olympia, Washington.
